Tyson & Ling Wedding Engagement
THE EXCITEMENT
I can’t tell you how excited I was to be Tyson & Ling’s wedding engagement photographer. As a creative person I like being challenged and testing out new concepts. This couple wanted my input and wanted their photos to be different from the normal engagement photo style found in the Vancouver area. I am often in Vancouver even though I’m not a Vancouver wedding photographer, but this made the event even more exciting because I got to work some of the very unique architecture into the photos.
THE LOVE
I love shooting wedding engagements for two main reasons; one is the couple usually feel much more relaxed, and the other reason is that we usually have the time and freedom to be creative and have fun. Whether the couple want to plan the shots ahead of time or not I almost always do. Most often I will visit a site and either take photos with a camera or just mentally. This way I can sketch on paper what the photo could look like, I then see it mentally as if it were shot and edited already. So once we get on location there is minimal walking around trying this or that, I already know what to do to get great shots. And in this case the couple were amazing.
THE COUPLE
Tyson & Ling wanted to do so many of the creative ideas that I came up with and they had some of their own, we all got right into it. Which is why I was so excited because often as a wedding engagement photographer I end up being just a record keeper or a journalist – and yes that has it’s creative moments too but not to the same degree. I did photograph their wedding, it was held close to one of the locations we chose for the engagement shoot. There were many people and one tiny (I mean tiny) church but once we got outside it was gorgeous, and behind this church there was an old heritage train station and street of shops on display; great photo opportunities for sure.
